So You Asked About B-Lovee

Who is B-Lovee?

B-Lovee is an American drill rapper born in Maryland and moved to the Bronx. He began his music career in 2015, pausing it until 2020, when he released his debut EP, Courtlandtbaby. His real name is Qwayshawn Cannon (born December 12, 2000). B-Lovee grew up in the Andrew Jackson Houses along Courtlandt Avenue’s dozen or so project buildings in the Bronx. He has become one of the hottest young drill rappers in the area.

Born to a West Indian family, music marked an escape. As a teenager, he began rapping. He is nicknamed after the “Buddy Love” character in the 1988 cult-classic Child’s Play. When he began his rap career he was not interested in posting on digital platforms. But, in 2020 he released the “No Hook” video with his friends from the neighborhood. He stated, “The main thing that got me out there was my neighborhood,” he affirms. “The projects knew me personally, so when I started rapping, they knew it was real. I was already respected.” Weeks later, he followed with “No Hook Pt. 2” and cleared 500,000 views independently. Quickly, B-Lovee stood tall among New York City’s emerging class of street rap movers and shakers.

This also led to the release of his debut EP, Courtlandtbaby in 2020. The rising artist rose to prominence on fellow Bronx drill rapper and close friend Kay Flock’s track “Brotherly Love” earlier this year. His song “IYKYK” became a viral hit in 2021 with over 16 million streams. He gained millions of views on YouTube and plenty more streams on Spotify. In December 2021, he celebrated his breakthrough with the 8-track collection “My Everything” featuring A Boogie, Herbo, and K-Flock. It also included three versions of the title track.

According to the Records Co website, B-Lovee states, “I did not even expect that song to be released. I had made it for my mom, sister, and my cousins. ’Cause I’m making drill music a lot. They don’t want to listen to that all day; they want to hear something else.” Somebody beyond the family leaked the song, which eventually became featured in half a million TikTok videos. “The impact was crazy,” says B, who wants to explore that lane further. 2022’s first strike “Don’t Change” is a reminder of B-Lovee’s core sound that he carries with him on a journey to reach as many fans as possible in a career that is built to last.

B-Lovee has been able to appear on songs with big rappers such as A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Digga D, and Coi Leray. B-Lovee is gaining major attention recently. His most famous songs include Shot Down, Spot Em, Get Down or Lay Down, and Through the Coat. You can also check the collaboration he has with Ice Spice, J.I & Skillibeng in a song called “One Time”.
